Overview of PAN Card Form

A PAN Card application form, referred to as Form 49A or Form 49AA, is used for the allotment of the Permanent Account Number (PAN).

PAN Cards are essential for the Income Tax Department to identify taxpayers. As such, each earning citizen of India is required to have a PAN Card for correspondence, TDS/TCS credits, specified transactions, returns of wealth/FBT/gift/income, tax payments, etc.

Form 49A must be filled in by Indian citizens who are located within or outside the country, while Form 49AA must be used by NRIs.

Physical Submission Mode

In this method, after the online data entry, the applicant will have to print out the form, attach photos and send the application along with required documents. Given below is the process involved:

Step 1 - Choose the category of the individual applying for a PAN card

Step 2 - Complete the form with all the required details and cross-check to verify that the information provided is accurate before proceeding to pay.

Step 3 -Make the payment online and you will receive a duly filled Form 49A / Form 49AA along with the payment receipt in your email.

Step 4 -Get a print out of the form and affix two passport-sized photographs to it.

Step 5 -Sign the form and attach the supporting documents as required

Step 6 - Send it to NSDL at Income Tax PAN Services Unit, NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No.341, Survey No.997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune - 411016.

e-KYC-Based

In this method, the applicant's Aadhaar details will be taken for the PAN Card application. The PAN Card will be sent to the residential address that has been given in the Aadhaar card. It is not necessary to send a PAN application along with documents to Protean eGov Technologies Limited

e-Sign option

In this method, one has to upload required documents and scanned photo while completing the application form. Attested documents will have to be submitted physically to Protean eGov Technologies Limited.

Digital signature based

In this method, one has to upload documents and images and then send the attested supporting documents to Protean eGov Technologies Limited.

Points to Keep in Mind When Filing Various Types of PAN Application Form

Form 49A must be completed with all mandatory fields filled to ensure further processing of the application. When filling out Form 49A, individuals are required to furnish the following information:

  1. ✅ Personal particulars including name, date of birth, address, and photograph.
  2. ✅ Details of income source.
  3. ✅ Valid documents to support the provided information.
  4. ✅ Payment of PAN application fee.
  5. ✅ The PAN application fee is ₹107 (inclusive of taxes) for Indian addresses and ₹1017 (inclusive of taxes) for foreign addresses.
  6. ✅ Payment methods accepted include credit/debit card, demand draft, or net banking.
  7. ✅ These charges apply when applying at a PAN center or submitting physical PAN documents online.
  8. ✅ Form 49AA should be completed exclusively in English; applications filled in any other language are not accepted.
  9. ✅  Providing the mother's name in Form 49AA is optional; applicants can choose to skip this field.
