The concept of e-challans was implemented in India in October, 2013 to replace the physical paper challans. Let us look into how these e-challans work.
Please note that if you wish to register a complaint with regard to your e-challan directly with the Guwahati police, you can go to the website (https://police.assam.gov.in/). Select 'Services Rendered tab' and register your complaint.

Driving a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet | If you are caught by the Guwahati police for driving a two-wheeler without a helmet, you will be fined Rs.1,000. |

Driving a vehicle when you do not have valid driving licence | If you drive without having a valid licence, you can be fined Rs.5,000. If there is a pillion driver, he/she will have to pay Rs.1,000 for accompanying a driver who has no valid driving licence. |
Violating the traffic rules | If you violate the traffic rules in Guwahati, you will have to pay a fine of Rs.5,000. |
Exceeding the speed limit | According to the new Motor Vehicles Act amendment, you have to pay a fine of Rs.2,000 if you drive over the speed limit in Guwahati. Light Motor Vehicle: Rs.1,000 - Rs.2,000 Medium or Goods Vehicle: Rs.2,000 - Rs.4,000 |
Driving dangerously | You will have to pay a fine of Rs.5,000 for driving a vehicle in a manner that could cause danger to pedestrians and other drivers on the road. |
Overloading a vehicle | If you drive a commercial vehicle and are caught for overloading it, then, you will have to pay a fine of Rs.2,000 to the Guwahati Police. |
Juvenile offences | If you are a minor and are caught breaking the traffic rules in Guwahati, you will have to pay a fine of Rs.25,000. Your licence can also be cancelled for up to one year. Keep in mind that you could also be imprisoned for up to 3 years. |
Not allowing emergency vehicles to pass | In Guwahati, you have to allow any emergency vehicle like an ambulance to pass through and drive ahead. If you are caught not giving way and allowing an emergency vehicle to pass through, you will be fined Rs.10,000. |
