Step 3: You will be redirected to a new page where you can enter your vehicle number or driving licence number in the field provided

Step 5: The challan for which payment is pending will have a ''Pay Now'' tab under the payment column

Step 6: Click on that and complete the payment process as listed in the section above

How to Make a Payment on Your E Challan

Step 1: Visit the echallan.parivahan.gov

Step 2: Enter either your challan number, driving licence number, or vehicle number in the field given

Step 3: Enter the captcha code correctly

Step 4: Click on 'Get Details'

Step 5: You will be redirected to the page which displays the status of your e-challan

Step 6: Under the Payment column, click on the tab ''Pay Now''

Step 7: Select your preferred mode of online payment - credit card, debit card, or net banking.

Step 8: Once the payment is successful, a confirmation message will be sent to your registered mobile number

Step 9: Save the transaction ID that is given for any future reference

How to Pay Your E Challan Offline

All you need to do to pay your e-challan offline is visit the police station that is closest to you and use the e-challan number that was provided to you to make the payment.

Over speeding

Light Motor Vehicle: Rs.1,000 to Rs. 2,000

MPV/LTV: Rs.2,000 to Rs.4,000 and seizure of licence

Dangerous driving or riding (includes jumping red lights)

Imprisonment between 6 months to one year and/or fine of Rs.1,000 to Rs.5,000

Overloading vehicles

Rs.20,000 (+ Rs.2,000 for every tonne above the permitted level and community service)

Overloading two-wheeler vehicles

Over-boarding cars with passengers

Rs.200 for every extra passenger

Driving oversized vehicles

Fine ranging between INR 5000 and INR 10,000 or/and community service.

  • How many days do I have to make the payment from the time the challan is issued in my name?

    You have 60 days from the date the traffic e-challan is issued to make the payment.

  • How do I receive an e-challan?

    The e-challan can be sent either through an SMS to your registered mobile number or a physical copy can be sent to your registered address.

  • What are the repercussions of not paying the e-challan?

    The fine may be collected by a traffic police officer visiting your registered address if you do not pay the e-challan within 60 days of its issuing. You will receive a notice and be required to appear in court to make the payment if you are not available or refuse to do so. Your driver's licence may be revoked if you don't show up in court to pay the fine.

  • What can I do if forget or have accidentally deleted my e-challan number?

    If you have forgotten or accidentally deleted your e-challan number, you can easily retrieve it by logging into the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India's e-challan web portal and entering your driving licence number of vehicle number.

  • On what basis are e-challans issued?

    E-challans are distributed based on traffic infractions captured by CCTV cameras placed at designated sites throughout the city. Next, information on the car and driver is obtained from the Regional Transport Office database. The location, date, and time of the traffic infraction are then listed in an SMS that is delivered to the registered cell phone number.
