RTO Form 22

Form 22 is issued by the auto manufacturer and provided to the car user at the time of purchase. Form 22 is issued to state that the car aligns with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH)'s emission regulations. Form 22 is a required document that contains all the information concerning the motor vehicle's emission level. 

When is Form 22 Released?

Once a car is purchased, the dealer will issue Form 22 with the manufacturer's signature. In the past, Form 22 merely included information confirming that the motor vehicle in question complies with the Motor Vehicles Act and identifying the pertinent emission standards. The initial certificate of compliance with environmental regulations, safety criteria for component quality, and the road-worthiness certificate (Form 22) for all vehicles are now also required from manufacturers. 

What Does Form 22 Contains?

The form 22 contains the following details -

  1. Car brand
  2. Emission values
  3. Chassis number
  4. Sound level for the vehicle model's horn and pass-by noise values
  5. Motor number (for battery operated vehicle)/ engine number
  6. Applicable emission norms

How to Download Form 22 

Follow the steps that are mentioned below to download form 22 - 

Step 1: Open the official website of Parivahan

Step 2: On the menu tab, select the 'Informational Services' option. 

Step 3: To download a form, select it from the drop-down menu. 

Step 4: Go to the 'All Forms' option. 

Step 5: Form 22 can be downloaded under 'All Forms' by scrolling down. 

How to Fill out Form 22 

Fill the following information on Form 22 - 

  1. Point 1: Name of the vehicle brand, engine number, chassis number
  2. Point 2 to 4: Mention the relevant emission standards
  3. Point 5(i) and (ii): Mention the specifics of the emission: amount of greenhouse gases for the specific fuel type car in the table below. Next, state the vehicle's noise level in decibels according to the position of passersby, the sound of the horn, and the operator's ear level.
  4. Manufacturer of the vehicle’s signature

  • Who would need Form 22?

    To confirm that their motor vehicle is roadworthy and meets with the emission regulations and other standards specified by the Central Government, everyone who has purchased a new vehicle must complete Form 22.

  • What makes Form 22 significant?

    The car sold was in compliance with all safety, roadworthiness, and environmental criteria, according to RTO Form 22. If one chooses to self-register, they must receive the original Form 22 from the auto dealer with the manufacturer's signature properly printed. For record-keeping purposes, they might also ask the dealer for a photocopy.

  • After I buy a new car, do I need a PUC certificate?

    For a year following the date of registration, you are not need to have a PUC certificate. If you choose to self-register, Form 22 from the dealer is all that is required.
