After you receive the OTP to download the e-Aadhaar, the PDF of the e-Aadhaar can be downloaded. To be able to view this, there is a need for a password. This password is called the e-Aadhaar password.

Why is e-Aadhaar Password Protected?

The e-Aadhaar contains sensitive personal information such as your name, date of birth, and Aadhaar number. To prevent unauthorized access and protect your data from misuse or identity theft, the downloaded PDF file is secured with a password. This ensures that only you or someone you trust can view its contents.

How to Download e-Aadhaar File?

Step 1: Click on this link https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/.

Step 2: Enter your Aadhaar number, captcha, following which a One-Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile number.

Step 3:  Enter the OTP and click on 'Login' and click on 'Download Aadhaar.'

Step 4: You can also choose to download a masked Aadhaar file.

Step 5: Once you have downloaded the file, enter your password which is the first four letters of your first name and the year of your birth.

Step 6: You will be able to view your e-Aadhaar.

How to Open the e-Aadhaar PDF File?

After you download your e-Aadhaar, you will notice that the file is in PDF format. This PDF file is password protected to ensure security. Here is what you need to do to open the file

Step 1: Double click on the file to open it.

Step 2: The file will display a small window which will ask for your password.

Step 3: Enter the first 4 letters of your name in capitals (as mentioned in your Aadhaar Card) followed by the 4 digits of your year of birth (YYYY format).

The format will be as follows: ABCD####, wherein the #### refers to the digits.

Given below are examples of the e-Aadhaar password:

Example 1:

Name of the cardholder: ARUN KUMAR

Year of Birth: 1976

Then e-Aadhaar password will be: ARUN1976

Example 2:

Name of the cardholder: ALI MONDAL

Year of Birth: 1976

Then e-Aadhaar password will be: ALIM1976

Example 3:

Name of the cardholder: S.N. SHEKHARAN

Year of Birth: 1976

Then e-Aadhaar password will be: S.N.1976

Example 4:

Name of the cardholder: RAJ

Year of Birth: 1976

Then e-Aadhaar password will be: RAJ1976

The password of your e-Aadhaar will be the first four letters of your name and year of your birth. Hence, the password format is easy as it ensures that you never forget your password.

The benefits of e-Aadhaar are as follows

  1. If your Aadhaar card is misplaced or stolen, you can download the e-Aadhaar card conveniently.
  2.  An e-Aadhaar card displays the most recent updates about your Aadhaar card. So, in case you update your Aadhaar card online, you do not have to visit the UIDAI-authorised centres to obtain your revised Aadhaar card.
  3. The most recent version of your Aadhaar card can be downloaded from the UIDAI website. This online Aadhaar card is referred to as an e-Aadhaar.
