Domestic Gas Price Rises by 5% in July 2025

The government raised the price of natural gas from state-run ONGC and Oil India Ltd's legacy fields from $6.41 to $6.89 per unit (million British thermal units) for July 2025 as the impact of rising oil prices during the Israel-Iran conflict became visible. The price cap of $6.75 per unit, which would be the applicable rate beginning on 1 July 2025, will, however, keep the real price increase to 34 cents, or 5%, according to a government announcement made on Monday. Oil prices are expected to decrease in the meantime, so it is obvious that they can either wait for the next gas price review or raise CNG prices to pass the expense on to customers. The fertilizer business will not be impacted by government subsidies.
