NSP intends to be a one-stop platform for Indian students seeking for scholarships by bringing together hundreds of scholarships run by both state and the central government. The portal is a part of the government's Digital India initiative and the National e-Governance Plan. 

Purpose of National Scholarship Portal

The following are the purposes of National Scholarship Portal: 

  1. To ensure timely disbursement of scholarships to the students 
  2. Allows candidates to avail themselves of both State and Central Government scholarships as per eligibility 
  3. Provides a transparent database of scholars  
  4. Enables easy processing of application by avoiding duplication 
  5. Ensures Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) application 

Types of Scholarships under NSP

The National Scholarship Portal caters to a wide range of scholarship opportunities, ensuring that students at different education levels can access financial assistance to support their studies.  

  1. Merit-Based Scholarships: These scholarships are given based on academic merit, and students who have showed extraordinary academic performance in their previous examinations are qualified 
  1. Means-Based Scholarships: These are granted according to the financial requirements of the student and their families. These scholarships are available to students from economically weak backgrounds.
  1. Scholarships for Students with Disabilities: These scholarships are provided for students with disabilities. The NSP has three scholarships for disabled students. They are the Pre-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, Scholarship for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities, and the Post-Matric Scholarships for Students with Disabilities. 
  1. Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe Students: The Top Class Education for Scheduled Tribe Students is provided for students belonging to the scheduled tribes of India. 
  1. Minority Scholarships: The NSP portal provides scholarships for various minority communities, including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Parsis 
  1. Post-Matric Scholarships: These are for students who have finished their matriculation or secondary education and are seeking higher education 
  1. Pre-Matric Scholarships: These scholarships are given to students enrolled in schools of primary and secondary education 
  1. Central Sector Scholarships: These scholarships are offered to students who are enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, or doctorate programs at recognized colleges and institutions 
  1. State-Specific Scholarships: Students can apply for and access the scholarship programs offered by various Indian states through the NSP portal. 

How to Apply for Scholarships through the NSP

Only if your present educational institution is listed on the portal are you eligible to apply for the NSP. You can contact your institute to start the registration procedure if it isn't already.

  1. Visit the NSP website and navigate to the ''Apply for Scholarship'' link in the drop-down menu on the left panel 
  1. Fill up the required fields for registration
  1. A reference number will be sent to the mobile number used for registration 
  1. Download and install Aadhaar Face RD and NSP OTR app for face authentication 
  1. OTR will be generated once authentication is successful 
  1. The OTR can be used for applying for scholarship once the application submissions are open on the portal 

How to Log in to the NSP Portal

  1. Go to the NSP Portal’s official website 
  1. Click on the Log in option 
  1. Fill in the OTR number you got while completing the registration process 
  1. Enter password and captcha code to complete the Log in process. 

Eligibility Criteria for NSP Scholarships

To get eligible for NSP scholarship you must meet the following conditions: 

  1. The total annual income from all sources for a household must not be greater than Rs 2,50,000 (this may differ across various schemes) 
  1. It is necessary for the students to qualify for the final exam 
  1. A cast certificate that is valid 
  1. It is required for the student to have an Aadhar card. 

How to Apply for NSP Scholarship on Mobile

To apply for NSP scholarships through the mobile app, follow these steps: 

Step 1: Download and Install the NSP Mobile App or if you already have the 'UMANG' app installed, you can access the NSP services through it. 

Step 2: Once registered, you will have access to various services provided by the National Scholarship Portal. Navigate through the app to explore different scholarships available.

Step 2: Select the Academic Year of your scholarship application. Indicate whether you are a ‘Fresh’ or ‘Renewal’ applicant. 

Step 3: Enter the Application ID that you received during the application process. 

Step 4: Click on the Submit button. 

Step 5: The portal will show your NSP Scholarship Application Status, indicating if it's under review, approved, or rejected. 

How to Check NSP Scholarship Payment Status

To check your NSP Scholarship Payment Status, follow these simple steps: 

Step 1: Go to the official website of the National Scholarship Portal 

Step 2: Enter your Bank Name and Account Number in the designated fields. Alternatively, you can enter your NSP Application ID. 

Step 3: Click on the Search button. 

Step 4: The portal will display the status of your NSP Scholarship Payment, indicating whether it has been processed or is still pending.
